cloaked...

most folk who visit us immediately fall in love with the place which is wonderful for them and us, but quite a few of these happy visitors, usually as the light begin to fade, comment on how they would not like to live deep inside a forest at night...

fortunately we love the calling of the owls and deer, the blacker than black nights and then the nights where the full moon seems to light up our land and we can see the sheep slumbering in the distant fields...

i guess the portion of those that are not sure of our remote location would not have enjoyed the last few days as we have been cloaked in mist..

just the kind you see in the very best, hide behind the sofa horror movies...

stepping out in to the yard i could only see as far as the wall..
who knew what lay beyond...

the possibility of head counting the sheep was zero...

the hounds were kept in confined spaces as they would have taken the chance to run for the hills, giddy with the fact that i would have had no idea which way they had gone...
total hound delight - me blind as a bat and they with their selective deafness..

idris the calf could be heard calling for his mama when once again he found he had gallivanted off too far on one of his daily adventures, the deep long sound of his eerie cries echoing through the foggy forest...

and to top it all, the empty derelict house down by our lower barn looked even more creepy than usual...

best stay away on foggy days if you are of a nervous disposition...

  1. We live in the middle of a wood and I too love the sound of the owls and the deer.

Both my mother and mother-in-law say they would hate it, but I find the trees comforting and cocooning. It is like being in another world.

    Atmospheric pictures Tracy!

  3. Have you watched The Village by M Night Shyalaman(?) ? Really good film about a village in the middle of a forest with lots of mist and noises.........
But I like the creaks of the forest and the whistlesof the house. Trees are lovely.

  4. It's been very foggy here in the the eastern US as well. Driving is tricky, silence is unnerving and yet I am loving it even though I am a city dweller. Your photos are lovely.
